Inspiration

My inspiration for the design came from the tutors and courses themselves. I liked the fact that so much emphasis and focus is put on making students being able to work on a wide range of work so they become adaptable to different environments.

Thinking about it as one of the possible themes and approaches, the first thing that came to my mind was ’collaboration and unity’. I thought that it is a very interesting concept and from there I started exploring visual ways of portraying it which gave me these sub-themes:

Patterns
- Each course is presented by specific pattern

Fluidness, Overlaps
- Reflect students ability to adapt to different situations as well as working
in different environments

Molecules - it is a winning idea that appealed to the client and audience the most.
- Connections between different courses, like atoms, physics

Development

The idea was to create minimalistic, sophisticated pattern that will easily inform
and reflect connection and collaborative relationship between the courses.

My next step was to explore more possible different colour directions and
come up with specific design system, a pattern that will be repeated across
different deliverables.

Validation

Experimenting and feedback received from the client and potential audience during presenting showed a lot of inaccuracies in the current approach.

Instead of making the concept easy to understand and interesting, a large number of different colours and shapes confused audience even more.

I took all suggestions and feedback on board and decided to go back to the roots.

A different approach

I came to the conclusion that original concept seems to be too much blocky and overcomplicated. That’s why I started looking for different ways to show how courses work tightly together, putting focus on collaboration and networking, sharing skills and constant development.

I decided to introduce different types of waves as connections to make it more dynamic and emphasize relationships between courses. I also started experimenting with different types of type face.
